Clear your calendar - The premiere event of KINEAUX kicks off Saturday July 23 2016. In light of recent events the first KINEAUX screening will be a 2-for-1 presentation of 'Do The Right Thing' and 'La Haine', two pivotal films that each focus on escalating racial tension and law enforcement bigotry within marginalized communities. Attendees can also look forward to:
- Sounds by DJ Xena X/E + Live soundtrack of DTRT peformed a by special guest DJ
- Eats by Casa Borrega and Froot Orleans + concessions & bars
- A BYO-friendly and inclusive atmosphere.
All proceeds of this screening will be donated to #JusticeforEricHarrisNola and the family of Eric Harris, a young black man murdered by Jefferson Parish police in Central City New Orleans on the evening of February 8th 2016.

Authorities have justified Harris’ murder as self‐defense, claiming that Harris put his car into reverse after crashing his car into a pole. However Tyshara Blouin, Eric Harris’ girlfriend and passenger that evening offers a conflicting report that the vehicle was disabled after the crash. According to Blouin, Harris was too dazed and disoriented to put the car in reverse. “I never saw him try to back up” she says, “As soon as he asked me if I was all right, they started shooting at the car.”
There are also reports of an alarmingly high level of force used by deputies. Neighbors in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots . Despite this, Dejean and Bonura have faced no investigation or reprimand.
New Orleans and its surrounding areas have a long history of state sanctioned violence against Black people. The Danziger Bridge shooting in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and other instances have illustrated the impunity to which NOPD violently operates within New Orleans’ Black communities. No Black person anywhere should have to settle for what’s presented.

With an emphasis on films by and/or about those of marginalized groups, KINEAUX presents audiences with an international selection of culturally iconic cinema within eclectic social settings.
